MERA PEAK CLIMBING

Summit Nepal’s highest Trekking peak in as little as 8 days

EX#504.

Mera Peak Cimbing: Trip Overview

The Mahalangur part of the Barun sub-division of the Himalayas is home to Mera Peak, the highest trekking peak, which rises 6476 meters above sea level. The Mera Peak Expedition lets you the view of three notable summits: Mera North (6476 m), Mera Central (6461 m), and Mera South (6065 m), all of which are situated in the remote Hinku Valley to the south of Mt. Everest.

Mera Peak (North) was first scaled by Marcel Jolly, G. Baus, and L. Honills in 1975. It was extensively explored by the British Expedition team, which included Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, before and after the successful ascent to Everest. However, Sen Tenzing and Col. Jimmy Roberts scaled Mera Central in May 1953.

Every year, many climbers arrive in Nepal to join the Mera Peak Expedition. In comparison to expert climbers, beginner mountaineers occupy a more significant percentage. Mera Peak’s challenging terrain and climbing environment make it simple for beginners to tie their shoes. Because of this, it is regarded as the best mountain to begin a climbing expedition.

Mera Peak expedition is not technically challenging, but it is high at 6476m with a long summit day, and, of course, you are exposed to the weather. You must drink plenty of water and keep your pace manageable and slow. Although the snow route is not particularly difficult, it is a long day out and will wear you out.

During the Mera peak expedition expect your appetite and sleep to change because the high altitude impacts your entire metabolism, not just your strength. Change your diet to one that is less fried, fatty, and high in slow-releasing carbs. Get far more liquids than usual and as much sleep as you can.

Mera Peak Climbing Route

The route to Mera peak expedition passes via the well-known Khumbu region. And this area offers everything: distinctive Sherpa villages, verdant forests, swinging suspension bridges, traditional gompas, monasteries, prayer flags, and more. It would take far too many words to describe what this Mera peak climbing experience offers.

From the top of Mera Peak, a visitor can take in the close-up display of the four eight-thousander mountains, Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Makalu (8,643m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m), and Mt. Lhotse (8,586m).

The Mera Peak trip begins by departing Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital and most historic city, for Lukla. After a beautiful air ride from Kathmandu, we will reach Lukla. On getting Lukla, you will trek to Chutenga and then to Chetra La pass. The trek continues to Khare, which offers sights of the soon-to-be-climbed Mera Peak.

You will stay overnight at Khare before traveling to Mera Base Camp (5300m). From the base camp of Mera Peak, your Himalayan trail will ascend to Mera High Camp (5,700 m), then to the peak itself (6,476 m).

Best Season to Climb Mera Peak

Autumn, which comes around September, is the best time for a Mera peak excursion. This is the first month of Autumn, following the departure of the Monsoon. Even though there will be a few remaining Monsoon clouds in early September, by mid-September the entire environment and weather begin to stabilize, with no rain or snowfall, and the temperature begins to rise. However, because Winter follows Autumn, the last few days of November are colder than the rest of the season. Pack some extra warm clothing for the next winter if you are traveling around November. Likewise, there is little rain in early September. Add rain gear or postpone the journey until mid-September, October, or early November.
