Palpa was once a powerful kingdom under the Sen kings. Today, Tansen is the headquarters of the Palpa District and has not yet caught on as a tourist destination but is getting there. At 1370m, it is much cooler than Pokhara which is 120 km away. One of its rulers Mukunda Sen made a name for himself by raiding Kathmandu in the 16th Century. He even managed to loot some images of Bhirav which eventually didn’t do him any good. The fate of this kingdom was sealed in 1806, when the Gorkhali invaders seized power bringing an end to the reign of the Sen Dynasty.
